Biography
As an undergraduate, Lattery attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN (1984-1986) and Bethel College in St. Paul, MN (1986-1988). As a graduate student in physics at the University of Minnesota (1990-1996), Lattery was a member of the CLEO Collaboration at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY). In 1996, Lattery earned a Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Minnesota based on experimental studies of the b-quark. He also earned a Masters degree in education from the University of Minnesota (Summa Cum Laude). In 1997, he joined the Department of Physics/Astronomy at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Lattery lives in Oshkosh, Wisconsin with his wife and two children.
For excellence in teaching, Lattery was named UW-System Wisconsin Teaching Scholar (2006) and Wisconsin Teaching Fellow (2000). In 2003, Lattery was promoted to Associate Professor and awarded tenure at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Recent professional positions include: Graduate Program Coordinator of the Masters of Science in Eduation Physics Track, President of the Wisconsin Association of Physics Teachers, Director of the Modeling Physical Science program, and Chair of the American Association of Physics Teachers Committee on the History and Philosophy of Physics.
He is currently the Principal Investigator of "Research on Student Model Formation and Development in Physics" (Grant #200800161) funded by the Spencer Foundation.
Lattery's reserach interests are physics education and the history and philosophy of science. The author of many peer-reviewed research articles, he has published in such diverse journals as Physical Review Letters, The Physics Teacher, School Science and Mathematics, Physics Education, and Science & Education.
